Vrouwen in de kunst III – FLIPPING MATTERS

Wat heb ik met vrouwen en wat met de belangen van vrouwen? Ik ben een van hen! –
Als kind wilde ik altijd een jongen zijn omdat spelen met jongens leuker was. Als puber bedacht ik dat in de ideale wereld er geen onderscheid zou moeten zijn tussen vrouw, man, huidskleur, seksuele geaardheid, overtuiging, welvaart.
Ik ben solidair met het belang van alle mensen die om welke reden dan ook een ongelijke of andere positie hebben in de samenleving. Ik ben wars van dogmatisme.
Kunst draagt wat mij betreft bij aan beter kijken en beseffen dat je met het kijken naar eenzelfde beeld allemaal je eigen verhaal of interpretatie kan hebben.
Welke relatie heeft mijn vrouw zijn met mijn beeldende werk?
Het gaat in mijn beeldende werk niet om het belang van vrouwen. Ik ben degene die het maakt en ik ben vrouw. Het thema vrouw komt dus niet per se inhoudelijk aan de orde.
Ik hou van de verschillende perspectieven op de werkelijkheid voor zover die al bestaat. Voor mij bestaat de ‘waarheid’ niet. Situaties zijn vaak te ingewikkeld om er een eenduidige mening over te hebben. Wat je ziet is niet altijd wat het is.
Wat heb ik met vrouwenkiesrecht?
Ik ben me politiek en maatschappelijk bewust. Kiesrecht is belangrijk voor alle mensen. Ik geloof in democratie en politiek op basis van idealen en waarden. Wat is echt belangrijk? Duurzaamheid, gelijkheid, gelijkheid in toegang tot bronnen, een vrije wereld voor iedereen zijn belangrijke thema’s in mijn leven.
Bovendien vind ik als het gaat over kiesrecht dat kinderen meer invloed zouden moeten krijgen op keuzes voor hun toekomst. Is dat de volgende stap in onze maatschappij?
Met welk werk wil ik meedoen?
Dan moet ik me afvragen wat mijn meest ‘vrouwelijke werk’ is? Dat kan ik niet. Flipping Matters symboliseert voor mij de verschillende perspectieven op leven en onze maatschappij. Goed kijken – de waarheid vertoont zich in verschillende gedaanten.

14 september is het open monumentendag. De samenwerking met Floor Remmelzwaal heeft een aantal bijzondere video installaties opgeleverd waarin beeld en geluid samen een geheel vormen. Ons werk is een spannende combinatie. Voor het eerst te zien in het Ooglijders Gasthuis.
Bosland & Remmelzwaal Sound And Visuals
A cooperation between Dutch artists Nelleke Bosland and Floor Remmelzwaal,
Our work develops from investigations into mathematical reductions of sound and visuals. Rhythmic, geometric repetitions of organised sound gyrating through stripes and flares are randomised into coinciding patterns. Not knowing what to watch for, the mind is feverishly inclined to search for asserting structures and meaning that isn’t there. The work exploits the tension between the swinging oscillations and modulations with the illusions of space and distorted perspectives.

Short Artist Resume.
Nelleke Bosland
Using sticky tape and moving light projections, Nelleke Bosland transforms existing architecture into alienating worlds. What is in front, what is in the background, what is above, what is below? Brightly coloured lines and shadows dance and tumble rhythmically through each other, reflecting surfaces create confusing repetitions. In this way the location interweaves with the projection, the tape creates unexpected spatial connections and at the same time weaves everything into a single whole. Presented in self-constructed demarcated spaces, an abstract, brightly coloured world unfolds to the fullest and light projection and tape merge into a tangible reality that is almost indistinguishable from a computer designed virtual reality.

CV Floor Remmelzwaal aka Beatmeisterin
Floor Remmelzwaal is a composer and instrument maker. She solders her own synthesizers and combines these with pre-built analog and digital sound boxes, effect pedals, computers and sensors. She is searching the ether for sounds that do not emit from resonance in the physical universe. It is giving electronic instruments a voice and a dialogue. The music is subsumed to organised sound; free from cultural constructs such as story, melody, harmony or emotions. The listener is therefore totally free to individually experience the music. Droning oscillations, banshee wailing and crushed noise transports the individual to wherever they are taken.
Beatmeisterin seeks to empower her synthesisers to interact and react spontaneously to light, art, movement, each other, the audience, and the ambient surroundings. In this way she becomes a conductor instead of instrumentalist.
